Govt Employees Stopped From Using Social Media

Govt employees in Pakistan barred from social media

Web Desk — The Establishment Division has stopped government employees from using social media without permission. The step has been taken to prevent disclosure of official information and documents.

According to an office memorandum, a government servant will not use any social media application without permission. It further says that government employees cannot express opinions or facts that affect the government’s reputation.

The decision bars government employees from speaking against government policy, decisions, national sovereignty, and dignity and in case of violation, strict action will be taken against them.

The memorandum states that a government servant cannot share official documents and information with irrelevant people and that the employees cannot speak to the media in a way that affects relations with other countries. However, the memorandum clarifies the guidelines don’t ban the positive use of social media.

The memorandum added that government servants of all services, and groups are bound to follow the instructions. Violation may lead to misconduct proceedings. Federal secretaries, additional secretaries, heads of departments, and chief secretaries have been directed to execute the memorandum.
