After the ouster of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s government in August 2024, relations between Islamabad and Dhaka — strained for decades — have gradually improved, accompanied by a notable increase in economic engagement between the two countries.
One sign of these improving ties is Pakistan’s plan to export 100,000 tonnes of rice to Bangladesh. For this purpose, the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has issued an international tender to purchase 100,000 tonnes of rice for onward sale to Bangladesh, an announcement that surfaced on Monday.
According to media reports, the last date for submitting price quotations is November 28.
As reported by Dawn News, the tender invites “separate sealed bids” from companies, partnerships and sole proprietors for the purchase of 100,000 tonnes of long-grain white rice (IRRI-6), which will be exported to Bangladesh as break-bulk cargo through Karachi ports.

According to the tender, the rice must be from the “latest crop of Pakistan origin,” fit for human consumption, and free from unpleasant odor, mold, poisonous weed seeds, insects or any form of infestation.
