The owner of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans, Ali Tareen, has announced that he is parting ways with the team. He shared an emotional message on social media, reflecting on his journey with the franchise.
In his statement on X, Ali Tareen described being part of Multan Sultans as “the greatest honor” of his life. He wrote that he deeply loves the fans, the team, and the opportunity to represent South Punjab on such a large stage.
Tareen explained that every season he reminded his players and staff what it truly meant to represent the region. Despite facing financial losses year after year, he said he never considered walking away. According to him, the Sultans have always been more than numbers — a responsibility he was willing to protect at any cost.
He added that he understood not everyone liked him, and he had no issue with that. What mattered to him, he said, was that he had always been honest and spoke his mind. Tareen wrote that he was never someone who would “play it safe” or follow directives blindly. If staying meant compromising his principles, then he was left with only one choice.
“I would rather lose this team while standing on my feet than run it on my knees,” he wrote. “So, this is goodbye.”
Tareen emphasized that Multan Sultans belong far more to their fans and to South Punjab than to any individual owner. He urged supporters to continue backing whoever takes charge of the franchise next.
It is worth noting that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently issued a notice to Ali Tareen over alleged contract violations and actions said to be damaging to the PSL’s reputation. Tareen publicly tore up and discarded the legal notice.
