TORONTO – Toronto police have arrested a suspect in connection with the arson attack on the car of Salma Zahid, a Pakistani-born Canadian Member of Parliament, while a second suspect remains at large.
The incident occurred earlier this week when Zahid’s vehicle was set on fire outside her home in the Scarborough neighborhood of Toronto.
Suspect Arrested, Charged
Police have identified the arrested suspect as Roshvin Crofton, 24. He faces multiple charges, including:
Arson with intent to damage property
Causing damage exceeding $5,000
Possession of incendiary material
Violation of a probation order
He is scheduled to appear in court on September 8, 2026.

Toronto police confirmed that they are continuing their search for a second suspect believed to be involved in the incident. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
Salma Zahid’s Response
Salma Zahid expressed satisfaction over the swift arrest and said she remains in contact with police as the investigation progresses.
“Since the investigation is ongoing, I will not be making any statements at this time. The facts will come to light once the investigation is complete,” she said in a brief statement.
