Signs of growing discord within India’s One Day International (ODI) squad are becoming increasingly apparent, with Indian media reporting further deterioration in relations between head coach Gautam Gambhir and senior batter Virat Kohli.
A video filmed at Raipur airport—circulating widely on social media ahead of the second ODI against South Africa—has added fuel to the speculation. In the clip, Kohli is seen seated away from Gambhir and engaged in what appears to be a serious conversation with former cricketer Pragyan Ojha. The scene has intensified rumors that the gap between Kohli and the head coach is widening.
Indian outlets claim that the atmosphere inside the ODI dressing room is currently under significant strain. Tensions reportedly grew after the sudden retirement announcements by Kohli and Rohit Sharma from Test cricket, a move that is said to have exposed fractures in the relationship between the head coach and senior players.
Debate also continues in India over Kohli’s place in the ODI side and whether he will be part of the squad for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. Adding to the controversy, Kohli has declined to participate in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy despite the BCCI’s directive for players to take part in domestic competitions.

Notably, Kohli had scored his 52nd ODI century last Sunday against South Africa. However, his refusal to play domestic cricket has reportedly sparked fresh discussion and concern within the cricket board.
