According to a report by senior investigative journalist and analyst Ansar Abbasi of The News, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi played a pivotal behind-the-scenes role in implementing the orders for PTI founder Imran Khan’s eye examination.
The report reveals that Naqvi’s quiet but effective efforts enabled contact between the government and PTI at a time when no official communication existed between the two parties. Through his behind-the-scenes diplomacy, the path for Imran Khan’s mutually agreed medical examination was paved.
Key Breakthroughs in Negotiations
Under the understanding reached, the government allowed PTI to nominate an independent medical practitioner to the medical panel examining Khan. PTI proposed the name of Dr. Nadeem Qureshi, which was accepted by the authorities.
Additionally, PTI was authorized to nominate a family representative to monitor the entire medical examination process.
According to Abbasi’s report, following consultation with Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, the family initially nominated Khan’s nephew Qasim Zaman as the family representative. However, Aleema Khan later withdrew this nomination and conveyed that Dr. Nausherwan Burki should be included in that capacity instead.
Hospital Transfer Demand and Government Response
The report states that PTI demanded Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital Islamabad for treatment. The government responded by clarifying that hospitalization would depend solely on the Medical Board’s recommendation, noting that the Supreme Court’s orders contained no directive for advance admission.
In a significant development, the government also facilitated telephonic consultation between the examining doctors and PTI-affiliated Lahore-based physicians Dr. Asim Yusuf and Dr. Khurram Mirza, ensuring broader medical input in the examination process.
