Prime Minister’s political adviser Rana Sanaullah has firmly rejected social media rumors suggesting that Nawaz Sharif is obstructing the notification of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). He clarified that such impressions are completely baseless and that Nawaz Sharif has never expressed any such view regarding the CDF.
Speaking to Geo News at Parliament House, Rana Sanaullah said that Nawaz Sharif’s recent remarks were being unnecessarily linked to this matter. He explained that Nawaz Sharif’s comments were made in a completely different context, and the background of that conversation had nothing to do with the CDF. Any constitutional amendments made so far, he added, have been approved by Nawaz Sharif.
Rana Sanaullah further stated that there is a clear difference between a matter being under consideration and a final decision being made. Different options are reviewed at different stages, and until a final decision is taken, no conclusive statements can be made. He emphasized that the CDF is a significant new institution, and because of its importance, the notification should not—and will not—be issued in haste.
He added that the notification will be issued only when all necessary steps have been completed. After the Constitution, the law comes first, followed by the framing of rules; all of this must be done carefully.
According to the PM’s adviser, the constitutional amendment clearly states that once the notification is issued, the term of the CDF will begin from that day and will last for five years.
