ICC World Cup India

Web Desk — The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday announced the overall prize money to be distributed among the teams participating in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 scheduled in India. According to ICC $10 million have been allocated for the event.

The winner of the ICC World Cup 2023 will be given $4 million while the runner-up team will take home $2 million.

In the Group Stage, all 10 teams will play each other once in a round-robin format with the top four on points table progressing to the semi-finals.

There is prize money allocated for winning the Group Stage games as well with teams getting $40,000 for every victory. Another good news is that at the end of the Group Stage, teams that fail to reach the knockouts will each get $100,000.

The prize money also sets the precedent for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2025. ICC has already announced equal sums for both men’s and women’s events during the Annual Conference held in Durban, South Africa in July 2023.

The breakdown of prize money allocations is as follows:

A total of 10 teams will be competing for the World Cup trophy in the 13th edition of the marquee event. India qualified by virtue of being the host nation while New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa progressed from the Super League.

Sri Lanka and the Netherlands had to play the Qualifier to get into the World Cup.

The biggest cricket event will span 48 matches to be played on 10 different venues. The event will commence on 5 October with the rematch of the Final of the previous edition between defending Champions England and New Zealand.

Each team will play two warm up matches before the start of the 46-day- long tournament.
