Former senior NATO commander Sir Richard Shirreff has warned that the rising confrontation between Iran, the United States, and Israel may trigger World War 3.
The British military veteran expressed his concern following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iranian targets and Tehran’s retaliatory actions on Gulf states.
Speaking in an interview with a British newspaper, Shirreff said he does not use such language lightly.
“As a former soldier, I fear we may be witnessing the beginning of a third world war,” he stated.
The former NATO chief cautioned that wars often begin in one region but expand far beyond their original battlefield, suggesting the Middle East conflict could spread globally if tensions don’t stop.
His comments come amid rising international concern over the widening Iran US Israel conflict and its potential global consequences.
