WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump is not satisfied with the latest proposals submitted by Tehran, as Iranian negotiators have failed to offer a clear and concrete position on the future of their nuclear program, a US official has told a British news agency.

The proposals, delivered to Washington through Pakistani intermediaries, represent Tehran’s attempt to move stalled negotiations forward, but the White House has found them lacking on key points.

No ‘Concrete Position’ on Nuclear Program

According to the US official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the Iranian proposals contained no meaningful clarity regarding the country’s nuclear ambitions.

“Iran has not presented any clear and concrete position regarding the future of its nuclear program in these latest proposals. This is why President Trump and his administration are not satisfied,” the official told Reuters.

What Iran Proposed

According to media reports and sources familiar with the matter, Iran’s new proposals – channeled through Pakistan – include:

Proposal ElementDetails
Ceasefire ExtensionInitial agreement on maintaining current ceasefire
Temporary TruceCommitment to a temporary ceasefire after current truce expires
Strait of HormuzIran has linked reopening the strait to the lifting of US sanctions
Nuclear TalksIran is willing to discuss its nuclear program only after conditions are met

Tehran has made it clear that it will not abandon its right to uranium enrichment for peaceful purposes under any circumstances – a position that Washington has consistently rejected.

Nuclear ‘Red Lines’ Remain

The Iranian leadership has reportedly communicated that once their conditions (sanctions relief and an end to the blockade) are met, the nuclear program can be discussed. However, Tehran has also made clear that:

  • The right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes is non-negotiable
  • The United States must formally recognize this right
  • Without recognition, no nuclear deal is possible

A senior Iranian source told reporters: “Without Tehran’s conditions being met, there will be no movement on the nuclear issue. The right to peaceful enrichment is not up for discussion.”

Trump’s Position: ‘Talks Are Meaningless’

President Trump has repeatedly stated that as long as Iran retains any nuclear ambitions – particularly the capacity to enrich uranium – negotiations are a waste of time.

“Until Iran abandons its nuclear weapons ambitions, talks are meaningless,” Trump said in a recent interview.

Trump has also made clear that Iran’s right to enrichment is not something he is prepared to accept. US officials have reiterated that the administration’s goal is a complete and verifiable dismantlement of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure – a demand Tehran has consistently rejected.

What’s Next?

With both sides entrenched in their positions, the diplomatic path forward remains unclear. Trump has signaled that he is prepared to walk away from the negotiating table entirely unless Iran provides a “clear, transparent, and verifiable” plan to end all enrichment activity.

The proposals delivered through Pakistan are widely seen as a final Iranian effort to keep diplomacy alive. If they are rejected outright, a return to heightened military confrontation – including a potential collapse of the fragile ceasefire – could become inevitable.
