Forget Google -Try These Best Alternative Search Engines

best google alternatives

Millions of people around the globe use Google as the world’s premier search engine but at times it becomes monotonous and we desperately need Google alternatives.

Though Google grabs the lion’s share of the world’s search engine market, we have better search engines available than Google for discovery and navigation around the web. For some purposes, Google might not be the best choice as the following options can answer your query in a much better way.

For example, if your search regards a non-English, non-Western market – Google will not deliver the best but the search engines being given below will. Every one of them has a reason why they’re the best Google alternative.

1. Bing

Microsoft’s Big is the second most popular search engine in the world. It is considered one of the few search engines that serve as a complete Google alternative. The quality of search results is trustworthy. Its additional services such as maps and for-business pages are also comparable.

Most of the search results are presented to you just like Google and you can choose between all results, maps, videos, news, and shopping by selecting among the given options.

Besides the familiar “people also ask” section, the first result will occasionally come up as a snippet or a card. As a welcome addition, Bing will allow you to gather points for the Microsoft Rewards gift card program but you might have to create a Microsoft profile to have those points saved.

Video search and visuals are two areas where Bing is often cited to have an advantage over Google. The image results might be easier to navigate than Google’s results even for starters. On Bing, you can do the proper search by using your voice and, images.

Video search results are much easier to navigate and behold. For the searcher’s convenience, Bing also adds the support to create a playlist by dragging and dropping the results in the bottom left-hand corner.

Besides local results that do look well, you will easily find a place or buy something while using Bing.

Bing’s Office 365 integration is a magical thing that gives you a lot of control over your data as long as you have a Microsoft account and are signed in while you use Bing. Unlike Google, Bing will never ask you to prove you’re not a bot – something that especially bothers people who use VPNs. Bing is a close competitor to Google in some countries of the world. In other words, it is also considered as the best search engine other than Google.

  1. Baidu

Baidu is China’s search engine. In case you move to China, do business there, or simply search content on the internet there, Baidu is the only search engine to help.

You should understand a couple of things before you start using Baidu as an alternative to Google. Remember, it is an alternative only when you are in China as it is biased towards indexing content in Mandarin – but that doesn’t preclude it from displaying results in the English language when asked to.

Another thing to keep in mind while using Baidu is that all the menus and options are in Chinese. You can also search videos and images and you’ll notice that Baidu has many of the same products and services that Google offers. The Chinese search engine is only a good alternative if you know the Chinese language and you’re interested in the world’s third most powerful country’s market.

  1. Yandex

Yandex is the Russian search engine and as its American counterpart does, Yandex offers services such as email, maps, analytics tools, as well as standard images and video searches, a translation tool, and – a browser. So Yandex has almost everything that Google is proud of.

But Yandex is different from Google because it targets five former Soviet markets – Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan – as well as Turkey. For each of the markets, Yandex has a starting page that looks portal-like, closer to Yahoo than Google.

As far as the Russian language is concerned, Yandex works especially well – perhaps much better than Google does. On the other hand, Yandex yields decent results by using the English language. The results will be good and they won’t be overtaken by ads. Yandex separates ads in a special search, much like an image or video search.

In a big city, just don’t expect Yandex to find you a shop or a restaurant because “Near me” won’t work that well. You will have to access the map, find your location, and look for what you need. Still, Yandex is capable of serving the core audience it caters to.

  1. DuckDuckGo

Meet DuckDuckGo, if you need a search engine that’s as concerned about your privacy as you are. Probably, this is the world’s most popular search engine that secures your privacy online. DuckDuckGo offers private search, tracker blocking, and site encryption, and above all, it doesn’t store your private information.

Unlike Google, DuckDuckGo does not harvest its users’ data and find ways to monetize it. On the contrary, it will serve ads to you through Bing Ads it will be done on the basis of your search term.

To deliver search results, DuckDuckGo partners with a variety of sources. It also relies on its crawler to index the web. The results might not always be on par with those Google would deliver, but DuckDuckGo is still a great place for finding the answer to your queries.

On DuckDuckGo, you can use! bangs – mean shortcuts that let you search using other websites. For example, if you want to search for something on Wikipedia, you just have to enter! w and your query. The result will be a Wikipedia page with your required answer.

  1. WolframAlpha

How about trying something that’s not a search engine? WolframAlpha is actually an answer engine that gives answers to the questions you ask. That’s why people call it an “answer engine”.

Time is money and WolframAlpha saves a lot of precious time while browsing. This search engine does not leave you alone among dozens of complex websites to find what you need. WolframAlpha gives you the information that you want to know.

The answers you get might be technical, but they save you time that otherwise you can’t in the case of other search engines.

6. Ecosia

This is the search engine for those who want something more to come out of their search activity. The most interesting and rather encouraging thing about Ecosia is planting trees with the profit it makes. The trees are planted where they’re needed the most. Columbia, Haiti, Morocco, and even Canada are some of the countries where Ecosia has planted trees. Roughly, 45 searches generate enough profits for a single tree.

Ecosia is proud of its privacy-friendly policy, so if you add that keeping in mind that it cleans the atmosphere with every search you make, there’s no reason why not to use it, at least once in a while.
