Web Desk — One of the major ride-hailing apps – Uber has announced to stop operations in Pakistan, media has reported. The company was operating only in Lahore after ending operations in five other cities in 2022.
As Uber’s spokesperson says, it will be taken over by subsidiary Careem in Lahore. He said the company had decided to cease its operations in Pakistan.
The spokesperson said Uber’s subsidiary brand Careem will continue to operate, with the Careem app offering ride-hailing services across Pakistan and earning opportunities for drivers.
Uber’s closure in Pakistan comes as part of the company’s global growth strategy where it has rolled back or merged operations with its subsidiary.
In an email sent to users on Tuesday, Uber said it had made the “difficult decision to no longer offer the Uber app services in Lahore as of April 30”.
