In the latest rankings released by FIFA on April 1, Les Bleus climbed to the summit following impressive friendly victories over Brazil and Colombia during the March international window. France now leads the standings with 1,877.32 points.

Notable Movements
Several teams outside the top tier registered significant progress within the top 50 :
- Turkey, Ivory Coast, Sweden, and Tunisia all improved their positions
- Vietnam recorded the biggest rise, climbing nine places
- Nepal and Bhutan also made gains in the latest rankings
World Cup 2026 Qualification
Of the 48 teams that have qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026, 37 are ranked within the top 50.
However, in a surprising turn, several high-ranked teams failed to qualify for the tournament :
| Team | FIFA Rank | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Italy | 12th | Did not qualify |
| Denmark | 20th | Did not qualify |
| Nigeria | 26th | Did not qualify |
Italy’s absence marks their third consecutive World Cup missed, dating back to their shocking exit from the 2018 qualifying campaign. Ten African nations qualified for the expanded 48-team tournament, yet Nigeria (26th) and Cameroon (45th) are among the notable absentees from the continent.
Pakistan’s Decline
Pakistan’s football team has slipped further down the rankings, dropping to 202nd position following a defeat against Myanmar.
This marks one of the lowest points in Pakistan’s football history, placing the national side near the very bottom among FIFA’s 211 member nations. Pakistan is now the lowest-ranked footballing nation in South Asia, lagging behind Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Afghanistan, and India.
The national side has now lost eight consecutive matches under head coach Stephen Constantine, raising serious questions about the tactical direction and developmental roadmap of the sport in the country.
