Another attempt to ease tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan has faltered, as fresh peace talks once again ended without any major progress due to what officials described as the Afghan Taliban’s inflexibility.
According to Reuters, the latest negotiations—held in Saudi Arabia—were part of a series of meetings hosted by Qatar, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia. While both sides agreed to maintain the existing ceasefire, no significant advancement was achieved on core issues.
The talks were aimed at reducing the strain that emerged after cross-border clashes in October. Although the ceasefire arranged earlier in Doha has largely held, the follow-up discussions in Istanbul failed to produce a long-term agreement.
Officials from both countries told Reuters that the recent meeting took place under a Saudi initiative.

Pakistan has insisted that the Afghan Taliban provide a written assurance that they will act against Pakistan-focused militant groups. Reports, however, suggest that while the Taliban offer verbal assurances, they remain unwilling to commit to any written guarantee.
