In an exclusive interview with Geo News’ program “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath,” Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif delivered a strong message on national security, regional threats, and the ongoing fight against terrorism.
The Defence Minister began by stating, “We defeated India in wars, and now we will defeat Indian proxies as well.” He emphasized the resilience and capability of Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies in combating terrorism. “Our intelligence agencies are doing excellent work,” he added. He expressed confidence that when Pakistan unites to fight this war, it will not take long to eliminate the threat.
Responding to questions regarding Afghanistan, the Defence Minister clarified that Pakistan has not closed the door on dialogue. “We have held talks with Afghan authorities in Turkey and Doha. Our officials even visited Kabul, but it yielded no benefit.” He pointed to internal divisions within Afghanistan as a significant obstacle, noting a “division between Kabul and Kandahar” and factionalism within the Afghan Taliban.
Asif painted a concerning picture of the security landscape across the border, alleging, “A gathering of various terrorist groups has taken place in Afghanistan. The Afghan government has turned a blind eye to these terrorists, which is why they are flourishing there and exporting terrorism.”
Islamabad Attack Originated from Afghan Soil
The Minister directly linked a recent suicide attack in Islamabad to terrorist elements based in Afghanistan. “The perpetrator of the Islamabad suicide attack was radicalized in Afghanistan,” he revealed.
He described the attack as highly calculated, stating, “The attack in Islamabad was carried out under a planned scheme and was timed when a friendly country’s president was visiting.” While acknowledging the “symbolic value” of targeting the capital, Minister Asif expressed hope: “We expect to soon gain control over the monster of terrorism.”
The interview underscores Pakistan’s firm stance on holding the Afghan Taliban government accountable for preventing the use of its territory against Pakistan and highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region.
