Will people finally move beyond smartphones in the near future?
This question arises as Meta continues to develop augmented reality (AR) smart glasses that many believe could eventually replace traditional mobile devices.
According to media reports, Meta’s first mixed-reality AR glasses are unlikely to launch before 2027, as the company has delayed the release to further refine the technology. The device, internally codenamed “Phoenix,” is expected to be introduced in the first half of 2027.
Sources suggest that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg postponed the launch to ensure that the smart glasses meet higher quality standards and offer a more advanced AR experience.
Back in July 2024, Zuckerberg predicted that in the future, every individual will wear AI-powered smart glasses, claiming the technology will evolve into a major global trend. According to him, smart eyewear will eventually become as common and essential as smartphones are today.
It’s worth noting that Meta first entered the smart glasses market in 2021 through its collaboration with Ray-Ban, introducing its initial pair of AR-enabled smart glasses.
As development continues, tech analysts believe that Meta’s upcoming AR glasses could play a pivotal role in shaping the post-smartphone era.
