Trump Claims Tehran Agrees to Hand Over Nuclear Material

WASHINGTON – United States President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States and Iran are “very close” to reaching a comprehensive peace deal, asserting that Tehran has agreed to terms it previously rejected — including handing over its enriched uranium stockpile to Washington.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Thursday, Trump painted an optimistic picture of the ongoing negotiations, which have been mediated by Pakistan.

‘They’ve Agreed to Almost Everything’

Trump claimed significant progress in the talks.

“They’ve agreed to give us back the nuclear dust. There’s a very good chance we’re going to make a deal,” Trump told reporters, using his term for enriched uranium that the US believes could be used to build nuclear weapons.

According to the US President, Iran has shown new flexibility. “They’ve agreed to almost everything. They got to get to the table with a pen,” he said, adding that Tehran is now accepting conditions it had previously rejected outright.

Trump May Visit Islamabad for Signing

In a significant statement, Trump revealed that if a deal is finalized in Islamabad, he “might go” to Pakistan to sign it personally .

“If the deal is signed in Islamabad, I might go. Pakistan has been great. They’ve been so good,” Trump said.

The US President heaped praise on Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership for their mediation role:

“The field marshal has been great, the prime minister has been really great in Pakistan. They want me to go,” he stated.

‘Iran Has No Leadership, No Military Left’

Trump also described the battlefield situation in stark terms, claiming that the US-Israeli military campaign has crippled Iran’s military capabilities:

“Iran has no leadership left and no military power. Their navy and air force have been completely destroyed,” he asserted.

He also said the blockade of Iranian ports had proven “more effective than bombing” in pressuring Tehran to negotiate.

Ceasefire Deadline Approaches

The current temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran is set to expire on April 21 . Trump indicated that the next round of in-person talks could take place “over the weekend” as both sides race to finalize an agreement before the truce ends.

Economic Impact of a Deal

Trump predicted significant economic benefits if a deal is reached:

“If we reach a deal with Iran, oil prices and inflation will drop sharply. Oil might become even cheaper than before.”

Market indicators already show optimism: Brent crude briefly dropped below $97 a barrel on news of progress, and Asian stocks rose on deal hopes.

Key Sticking Points Remain

However, significant gaps remain. The US has proposed a 20-year suspension of Iran’s nuclear activities, while Tehran has offered a five-year pause . Two Iranian sources indicated that Tehran may consider sending part of its uranium stockpile out of the country — but not all of it.

The White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Washington is discussing holding a second round of talks with Iran, describing Islamabad as the “only mediator” in the process.
