OpenAI’s Sora Available in EU, UK – Video Generation Expands

OpenAI SORA available in Europe

Web Desk: OpenAI has expanded access to its video generation model, Sora, making it available to users in the European Union, the U.K., Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland.

The company announced on Friday that ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers in these regions can now create videos using Sora.

“Sora has arrived in the EU and the UK.” – OpenAI (@OpenAI) February 28, 2025.

Originally introduced in February 2024, Sora was made available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in December. However, it was previously inaccessible to users in the European Union.

What Can SORA Do?
Sora is capable of generating hyperrealistic scenes from just text prompts. Earlier, the tool was only available to media professionals like visual artists, designers, and filmmakers.

OpenAI also has plans to “eventually” incorporate audio, which, according to the company, has the potential to make scenes generated by Sora sound and feel even more realistic.

Sora Likely to Be Priced Similar to OpenAI’s DALL-E

When questioned about the data used to train Sora, OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer, Mira Murati, provided vague responses, avoiding specifics. She stated that the model was trained on publicly available and licensed data but did not elaborate further.

It remains unclear whether training data included videos from platforms like YouTube, Facebook, or Instagram. However, Murati confirmed that Sora exclusively uses image content from Shutterstock, an OpenAI partner.

She also emphasized that operating Sora is significantly more expensive than OpenAI’s previous AI models, such as DALL-E and ChatGPT. Despite this, the company plans to offer Sora to the public at a cost comparable to DALL-E.
