According to Indian media reports, Asha Bhosle was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday after her health deteriorated. She was brought to the hospital due to a chest infection. Before her passing, multiple organs of the iconic singer had stopped functioning.
Last Rites on Monday
The legendary singer’s son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed that her last rites will be performed on Monday evening. The news of her hospitalization was earlier shared on social media platform X by her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle.
A Legacy of Thousands of Songs
Asha Bhosle recorded thousands of songs in a career spanning over 70 years, collaborating with leading music directors including S.D. Burman, R.D. Burman, Shankar-Jaikishan, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Ilaiyaraaja, and A.R. Rahman, among countless others. She is widely regarded as one of the most versatile and prolific singers in the history of Indian cinema.
Highest Civilian Honors
The legendary singer was honored with India’s prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 for her unparalleled contribution to Indian cinema. She was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, India’s second-highest civilian award. Additionally, she received the Padma Shri (1980) and Padma Bhushan (2000), making her one of the most decorated artists in the country.
Sister of Lata Mangeshkar
Asha Bhosle was the younger sister of another legendary Indian playback singer, the late Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 92. The Mangeshkar-Bhosle family remains the most celebrated musical dynasty in the history of Indian cinema.
Guinness World Record
In 2011, Asha Bhosle was officially acknowledged by the Guinness World Records as the most recorded artist in music history, having recorded over 11,000 songs in more than 20 languages. This record was later surpassed, but she remains one of the most prolific singers of all time.
