Israel Plans to Divide Syria into 3 Blocks: Report

Israeli plan to divide Syria

Web Desk – The Israeli government has reportedly planned to divide Syria into provincial blocs to secure its national security interests in the neighboring country.

According to the Israeli daily Israel Hayom, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz chaired a small meeting with various ministers on Tuesday to discuss matters such as Turkey’s involvement in Syria and concerns surrounding the new de facto Syrian leader, Ahmed Al-Sharaa.

The meeting also addressed an Israeli plan reported last month by the London-based news outlet Middle East Eye. The report revealed that Tel Aviv had proposed dividing Syria into three blocs: Kurdish-controlled regions in the northeast, Druze areas in the south, and the remnants of the Assad regime in Damascus. However, those plans were reportedly disrupted following the rebel takeover and the fall of Assad on December 8.

Under these newly developed plans, Israel’s security establishment envisions Syria being divided into provincial regions or cantons. As reported by Israel Hayom, the move is intended to “safeguard the security and rights of all Syrian ethnic groups.”

Additionally, Israeli Energy and Infrastructure Minister Eli Cohen suggested that the broader discussion of such plans be brought to an international conference. He emphasized that the issue should not be directly associated with Tel Aviv to avoid discomfort among Syrians regarding Israeli involvement.
