“We will not unload even an inch of this killer cargo ship.” Dock workers at the Greek port of Piraeus, near Athens, have expressed strong opposition against Israel.
The dockworkers have announced that they will not unload the container ship ‘Ever Golden’, which is reportedly carrying military-grade steel. The vessel is expected to arrive in Athens in the coming days, destined for Israel.
The workers’ union declared:
“Piraeus dockworkers will not become part of Israel’s massacre. We will not unload military steel from the Ever Golden – No to Greece’s complicity – Freedom for Palestine.”
According to Vessel Finder, a container and ship tracking website, the Ever Golden is Japanese-owned, sailing under a Panamanian flag, and was near the West African coast on Tuesday morning.
The ship is expected to arrive at Piraeus on July 14, where its cargo will be transferred to another container vessel named ‘Folk Dammam’, which will then proceed to Israel as the final destination. The Ever Golden, built in 2018, is transporting 75 bundles of military-grade steel from India.
Last week, the BDS Movement (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) posted on social media that this vessel is carrying materials aiding Israel’s military during the ongoing genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians and is now en route to Greece. Once there, the steel will be shifted to the Folk Dammam and shipped to Haifa Port in Israel. The Folk Dammam was purchased on May 14 by Folk Maritime, a company owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).
Greek dockworkers under the ENEDYP (Piraeus Dockworkers’ Union) stated:
“We will not contribute to Israel’s war crimes. This is military cargo that will be used to bomb children, civilians, hospitals, and schools—just as Israel continues to do against the Palestinian people.”
They emphasized that:
“Piraeus port is not a base for the U.S., NATO, EU, or war profiteers. It belongs to workers and the labor movement. Just like in the past, we will not unload this killer cargo again.”
ENEDYP has urged all workers to refuse any involvement with the ship, calling for unity against imperialist interventions.
“We reject becoming tools of the U.S., NATO, EU, Israel, or China—who seek to redraw the world map through bloodshed by using our lands. We stand on the right side of history and will not allow ourselves to become victims of retaliation.”

Growing Anti-Israel Resistance Across Europe
This move by Greek dockworkers is part of a broader wave of organized resistance across Europe’s ports against shipments to Israel.
On June 4, workers from France’s CGT Union refused to load 19 pallets of submachine gun parts onto a Liberian-flagged container ship at the port of Marseille Fos.
Similarly, in Genoa, Italy, workers from the USB Union stationed guards to block the loading of the same vessel, CONTSHIP ERA, saying:
“We, too, do not want to be part of the Gaza genocide.”
