ChatGPT’s ‘Custom Instructions’ Feature Now Open For Free Users

ChatGPT custom instructions

Web Desk — OpenAI – the ChatGPT maker has announced to expand the custom instructions with a view to giving users more control over how ChatGPT responds to all users including those who use the service for free.

According to TechCrunch, the feature, first introduced in July as a beta for ChatGPT Plus subscribers, now allows users to add various preferences and requirements that they want the AI chatbot to consider when responding.

This feature is designed to save users time, so they don’t have to rewrite the same instruction every time they interact with the chatbot.

For example, you can ask ChatGPT to keep its answers confined to certain limits or customize the tone of the response it provides.

OpenAI, on the feature’s July debut, also offered an example of a teacher using ChatGPT to create a lesson plan and would no longer have to constantly repeat that they teach 3rd grade to receive an appropriately customized response.

Using the feature, developers could ask the chatbot to provide responses in languages they prefer — or eliminate those they don’t.

The company earlier said, “Through our conversations with users across 22 countries, we’ve deepened our understanding of the unique needs of each person.”

Earlier, custom instructions were limited to those who pay for a ChatGPT Plus subscription for $20 per month until this week but now the option will be available for free and Plus users alike, including on iOS and Android.

Additionally, custom instructions can now be used even with chat history turned off, OpenAI notes.

To get started, you first click on your name and then select “Custom instructions”.

The company says that the feature will expand across the EU and the U.K. soon.
