A controversial statue depicting disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and US President Donald Trump has been installed near the National Mall in Washington DC, reigniting scrutiny of their past relationship.
The statue recreates the famous pose from the blockbuster Hollywood movie Titanic, with Epstein standing at the front and Trump behind him with arms outstretched in the iconic “king of the world” position.
‘Make America Safe Again’ Banner
Alongside the statue, an anonymous individual placed a banner mocking the US President, reading:
“MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN”
The phrase plays on Trump’s famous campaign slogan “Make America Great Again,” while alluding to the Epstein scandal and questions about what Trump knew about his longtime associate’s criminal activities.
Third Such Installation Since September
According to US media, this is the third statue installed at this location since September of last year, all apparently aimed at drawing attention to the relationship between Trump and Epstein.
The recurring installations suggest an organized effort to keep the Epstein-Trump connection in the public eye, particularly as Trump serves his second term in office.
Epstein Files Controversy
According to Newsweek magazine, since Trump assumed office again, the issue of releasing the “Epstein Files” —documents related to Epstein’s criminal network and high-profile associates—has remained a source of ongoing controversy.
Trump’s relationship with Epstein has come under renewed scrutiny, with questions about what the president knew and when he knew it regarding Epstein’s sex trafficking operations.
History of Friendship
Trump and Epstein maintained a close friendship from the late 1980s through the early 2000s, documented by numerous photographs showing the two together at various social events, including parties at Mar-a-Lago.
However, following Epstein’s arrest in 2019 on sex trafficking charges, Trump claimed he had a falling out with Epstein long before. “I had a falling out with him a long time ago,” Trump stated, adding that he had not been in contact with Epstein for the previous 15 years.
Epstein died in jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges, in a death officially ruled suicide but which has spawned numerous conspiracy theories.
Symbolic Installation
The statue’s placement near the National Mall—one of America’s most prominent public spaces—ensures maximum visibility and serves as an ongoing political embarrassment for the Trump administration, highlighting a chapter of the president’s past that continues to shadow his time in office.
