India and the European Union have reached a landmark trade agreement, being hailed as the “Mother of All Deals,” which promises to elevate their economic partnership to unprecedented heights. The deal will see tariffs eliminated or significantly reduced on approximately 97% of EU exports to India, amounting to potential annual duty savings of up to €4 billion.

The groundbreaking pact was finalized in a meeting in New Delhi between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President António Costa.

“This agreement will create countless opportunities for the 1.4 billion people of India and the millions in the European Union,” stated Prime Minister Modi during the announcement.

European officials described the pact as India’s most comprehensive and far-reaching trade agreement to date. Key sectors expected to benefit include European agriculture, automobiles, and services. Foreign media reports also highlight that the agreement includes a strategic security partnership component, which is set to create new opportunities for defense companies.
