In a shocking and tragic incident, 25-year-old Indian tennis player Radhika Yadav was shot dead by her own father at their home in Gurugram near Delhi.
Indian media says that the athlete had represented India in several national and international tournaments. Reportedly, she was gunned down over what appears to be a disturbing mix of ego, jealousy, and a clash over her economic independence and online presence.
According to initial reports, the only people present at the residence during the incident were Radhika and her father, Deepak Yadav. The father allegedly shot his daughter three times with a licensed revolver. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Radhika’s Instagram Reel
Preliminary investigations suggest the fatal argument began over a reel Radhika filmed for Instagram. According to Gurugram Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar, “A social media post sparked tension in the house. The father became agitated and shot her.”
A music video starring Radhika also went viral on social media. The video, titled “Karwaan”, is a romantic track by independent artist INAAM. While there is no confirmed link between the video and the killing, some reports suggest it may have added to her father’s growing disapproval.
From Pride to Possessiveness
What makes this case even more haunting is the underlying motive. Police sources told Hindustan Times that Deepak Yadav was envious of his daughter’s financial independence, and deeply uncomfortable with the idea that his identity was being overshadowed by hers.
People in their native village allegedly mocked him, accusing him of “living off” Radhika’s earnings from her successful tennis academy. These taunts and the growing societal pressure reportedly bruised his ego.
According to the FIR, Deepak confessed: “I could no longer bear the humiliation.” He had asked his daughter several times to shut down her academy, but Radhika refused.
Radhika’s Murder Raises Serious Questions
Radhika Yadav was more than just a tennis player—she was an emerging symbol of ambition and modern independence. Her murder is not just a family tragedy but a grim commentary on patriarchal insecurities and societal pressures that continue to plague even the most progressive households.
Radhika’s story is a devastating reminder that success, especially when it comes from a woman in a male-dominated society, can still bring deadly consequences.
