Web Desk — Lionel Messi wins the ‘Best FIFA men’s player prize 2022’ following his World Cup victory. Argentina and Spain’s Alexia Putellas retained the women’s award at the same ceremony held in Paris.
Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema were the strong contenders but Messi beat them and won the prize. National team coaches and captains, journalists, and also fans vote for the winner of this prize.
Messi scored twice in the epic Football Worldcup final in Doha as Argentina beat France on penalties despite Mbappe netting a hat-trick for Les Bleus in a remarkable 3-3 draw.
Though Mbappe was the top scorer at the world cup with eight goals, the Argentinian captain claimed the Golden Ball for the best player at the tournament.
Messi said that this year was just mad for him, to be able to achieve the dream that he had fought so hard for.
