In a major step towards empowering electricity consumers and ensuring transparency in billing, the federal government of Pakistan has introduced a new mobile application named “My Meter, My Reading.” The app is designed to allow users to take control of their electricity consumption by submitting their own meter readings directly to the authorities.
With the Power Smart App, users can easily monitor their bills by simply taking a photo of their electricity meter on the designated reading day and uploading it through the app. Once submitted, the bill will be generated based on the user-provided reading — even if a WAPDA meter reader sends in a different reading. The consumer’s submission will be given preference.
This initiative aims to address long-standing complaints of overbilling, inaccurate meter readings, and delays in the billing process. By putting the control in the hands of the consumer, the government hopes to reduce disputes and improve accountability.
“This is not just a tech upgrade — it’s a reform in governance that truly empowers consumers,” said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif while inaugurating the app.
He added that the new system especially benefits subsidy-eligible users, allowing them to ensure that their subsidies are applied correctly and fairly.
During the launch event, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced the removal of the PTV license fee from electricity bills, declaring it part of ongoing efforts to reduce electricity costs for the public.
“We are taking more steps to reduce electricity prices. The removal of the PTV fee is just the beginning,” he said.
The app is now available for download, marking a digital revolution in how Pakistan handles electricity billing — one that brings transparency, efficiency, and empowerment to millions of users.
