Monitoring Desk: In recognition of the remarkable success of Operation Bunyān-um-Marsūs, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir has been promoted to the rank of Field Marshal.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Following the cabinet’s approval, the Prime Minister met with the President of Pakistan to formally brief him on the decision.
In addition, it was decided to extend the services of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu following the completion of his current term.
Those who rendered outstanding services during Operation Bunyān al-Marsūs will also be honored with national awards.
Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed his gratitude and dedicated the honor to the people of Pakistan. “I am thankful to Allah for this honor. This title belongs to the nation, and millions of Asims are ready to sacrifice for it. Our martyrs and veterans are our true heroes,” he stated.
General Syed Asim Munir becomes the second Field Marshal in Pakistan’s history. The first was Field Marshal Ayub Khan.
