The death toll from a shooting incident on Bondai beach in Sydney, Australia, has risen to 16, while at least 29 people were injured, including two police officers.
According to police, one of the attackers was killed during retaliatory action, while another suspect was arrested in an injured condition. The arrested individual has been identified as Naveed Akram, a resident of Sydney.
The shooting occurred during an event marking a Jewish religious festival. Following the incident, police sealed off the area and advised local residents to stay away from Bondi Beach.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the shooting as an act of terrorism, stating that Australia would not bow to violence. Australia’s Muslim community also strongly condemned the incident, saying there is no place for violent and criminal acts in society.
