Web Desk — Pakistan is making preparations to join the BRICS group of nations in 2024 with Russian assistance for the membership process. Pakistan’s newly appointed Ambassador to Russia Muhammad Khalid Jamali told Russian News Agency TASS in an interview.
The ambassador informed the Russian journalist that Pakistan has already applied for the BRICS membership, confirming that Islamabad plans to join the group under Russia’s presidency, in 2024.
The diplomat further added that Pakistan would like to be part of this important organization and for that purpose member countries are being asked to extend their support for Pakistan’s membership in general and the Russian Federation in particular.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Ryabkov said in early October that BRICS plans to agree on a list of candidates for partner-state status ahead of the upcoming summit in Kazan in 2024.
It is said that during the Russian BRICS chairmanship, special attention will be paid to expanding the “circle of BRICS friends,” including in Latin America.
