PTI Govt Fails to Control Food Inflation

Surging food prices in Pakistan

KARACHI: (Web Desk) Despite some positive economic indicators in the first three years of the PTI led government, the galloping rise in the prices of food items has been a major concern for the masses.

According to market people the government has not given prime importance to soaring food prices due to lack of an effective price-monitoring mechanism.

Due to government’s inability to keep check on the rising prices of food items, food sector investors, middle man, retailers, wholesalers and mafias, everybody in their capacity have enjoyed a free hand in pushing up the prices to the maximum limit.

Economic experts are of the view that the government has failed to establish its writ to maintain the prices of daily use items.

Karachi Retailers Grocers Association (KRGA) General Secretary Farid Qureshi says unfortunately the government has not only failed in recovering large quantities of hoarded sugar and wheat, but also been unable to dismantle the mafias who still have control over the commodity markets to manipulate the prices of essential goods.
