Broadband Contracts Worth Rs300 Million Awarded To Jazz

Web Desk — Jazz has been awarded contracts worth approximately Rs300 million by the Ministry of IT & Telecom (MoITT) through Universal Service Fund (USF) for providing high-speed mobile broadband services on the M3 and M5 motorways, according to a press release.

USF’s CEO, Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary, signed the contract with Syed Fakhar Ahmed, its Chief Corporate Regulatory Affairs Officer, and Mr. Mudassir Hussain, Jazz’s Vice President.

Federal Secretary for IT & Telecommunication and USF Board Chairman, Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, and Member Telecom, Muhammad Omar Malik, attended the ceremony. Murad Saeed, the Federal Minister of Communications, congratulated Syed Amin Ul Haque, USF, and Jazz for launching the high-speed mobile broadband projects for the motorways.

According to Murad Saeed, it is not only going to allow commuters to communicate with one another on motorways, but it will also facilitate rescues in case of an emergency. “The present government is working relentlessly to provide maximum facilities to the citizens of Pakistan to ease their lives.”

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Syed Amin Ul Haque, said that USF will be able to provide high-speed mobile broadband access to 54.92 km of an unserved road segment that passes through the districts of Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, and Khanewal.

Not only will this benefit commuters on the motorway, but it will also benefit residents of surrounding districts and villages. Similarly, the second project M5 will provide high-speed mobile broadband to 78.85 km of an unserved road segment that runs through Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Kashmore, Ghotki, and Sukkur.

It is estimated that the M3 project will cost approximately Rs140 million and the M5 project will cost approximately Rs154 million, and both projects will be completed within one year. The USF Motorways and National Highways program has provided broadband coverage to 1,929 km of road segment length.

The Ministry of IT has launched IT and telecommunication projects worth Rs8.5 billion for Sindh without discrimination. Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary, CEO of the USF, in his introductory remarks, said, “The USF is committed to empowering marginalized communities in Pakistan.”. Aamir Ibrahim, CEO, Jazz, said that the projects will provide broadband access to 134 km of unserved road segments on M3 and M5.

Jazz will provide 4G coverage to 134 km of two important motorways through this project.
