Great news for Harry Potter fans waiting for the new TV series! HBO has officially confirmed a second season of the show—even before the first season has aired.

The first season, titled “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” is scheduled to premiere this Christmas in December 2026. But HBO has decided not to make fans wait, announcing that Season 2 has already been greenlit and will begin filming in fall 2026.

‘Chamber of Secrets’ Will Be Season 2

Season 2 will be based on the second book of J.K. Rowling’s beloved series, “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”. This follows HBO’s overall plan to adapt all seven books into a long-running television series, spending one season on each book.

Why Did HBO Renew So Early?

The decision to renew early comes from a very practical concern: the young cast is growing up fast.

The main trio of child actors—Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger—are all around 12 years old. HBO’s Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys told Deadline, “We’re going to do whatever we can to not have a huge gap” between seasons.

The studio also wants to maintain production momentum. The first season’s filming is expected to wrap up by Christmas 2026, and with both seasons being produced on overlapping schedules, they’ve needed to keep the team working efficiently.

Who Is Making It?

Here is a quick overview of the key creative team and cast for the Harry Potter TV series:

What to Expect in Season 1?

The first season will bring Harry’s origin story to life. The storyline begins on Harry’s 11th birthday when he discovers he is a wizard and receives his letter to Hogwarts. The season will introduce audiences (both new and old) to the magical world and the dangerous enemy from Harry’s past.

A trailer for the first season was released in March 2026.
