US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Iran, cautioning the country against launching retaliatory strikes following the martyrdom of its Supreme Leader, warning that any such action would be met with unprecedented force.
Speaking to American media, Trump stated that Iran’s response so far has been “lower than we expected.” He claimed that following the strikes, the United States is now in a “better position to reach a diplomatic solution” with Iran.
“We expected a slightly higher reaction from Iran. Now we are closer to a diplomatic solution in a much better way because Iran is being hit badly,” Trump said.
In his latest threat, Trump delivered a stark warning to Tehran: “If Iran retaliates, we will hit them with a power that has never been seen before.”
The warning comes just hours after Iran’s official media confirmed the martyrdom of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Israeli strikes, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vowed to launch “the most devastating and offensive operation in Iran’s history.”
Strategic Calculus
Trump’s remarks suggest that while the US anticipated a more significant military response from Iran, the current situation—with the Supreme Leader martyred and the country in mourning—has created what the administration views as leverage for potential negotiations.
However, with the IRGC having appointed a new commander and vowing revenge, and with Iran’s retaliatory rocket attacks already having struck Israel and US bases across the region, the path to any diplomatic resolution remains highly uncertain.
The world now waits to see whether Iran will heed Trump’s warning or proceed with its promised devastating retaliation.
