In a landmark deal for Pakistan cricket, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans has been acquired by Wali Technologies for a staggering PKR 2.45 billion for a 10-year ownership term. This historic purchase makes the Sultans the most expensive franchise in PSL history.
The highly anticipated auction was held on Monday evening at the Expo Center Lahore, attracting bids from five of the country’s major corporate groups. The bidding was fiercely competitive, starting from the franchise’s base price of PKR 182 crore.
The ceremony was graced by prominent cricket figures, including former PCB Chairman Najam Sethi, who inaugurated the proceedings by striking the ceremonial gong. He was accompanied by the current PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. Pakistan’s legendary batsman Zaheer Abbas was also present for the occasion. Host Fakhr-e-Alam invited Abbas to the stage, where the cricket icon expressed his joy at the continued growth and commercialization of cricket in Pakistan.
The sale was initiated after the previous owner, Ali Tareen, chose not to renew the 10-year ownership agreement, prompting the PCB to put the franchise up for public auction.
This record-breaking acquisition marks a new era for the Multan Sultans and underscores the growing commercial appeal and stability of the Pakistan Super League.
