‘Operation Midway Blitz’ Kicks Off in Chicago

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under President Donald Trump has announced the launch of “Operation Midway Blitz,” to target “criminal illegal aliens” taking advantage of Illinois’ sanctuary state policies.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said the operation will target criminals including gang members, rapists, kidnappers, and drug traffickers allegedly released under state and city sanctuary measures. ICE has established an office at Naval Station Great Lakes in North Chicago to coordinate the operation.

Governor JB Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson have already criticized the move, arguing it was politically motivated and not focused on genuine crime control. Pritzker said the administration had failed to coordinate with local authorities, while Johnson said the city had no notice of enhanced immigration action.

Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth also condemned the surge, calling it a misuse of federal resources intended to provoke unrest.
