France May Impose Sanctions on Israel Over Gaza Humanitarian Crisis

France may impose sanctions on Israel

Web Desk – France says it may consider imposing sanctions on Israel if humanitarian aid continues to be blocked from reaching civilians in the Gaza Strip, according to Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot.

Calling the humanitarian situation in Gaza “unacceptable,” Barrot urged the Israeli government to allow immediate and unrestricted access to essential supplies, including food, water, and medical aid.

“The Israeli Prime Minister must heed the near-unanimous call of the international community, deeply shocked by the catastrophic situation in Gaza, to implement a ceasefire and allow the entry, without any form of obstruction and delay, of humanitarian aid,” Barrot said in a press briefing.

When asked directly if France would consider sanctions against Israel, Barrot stated: “As I have said, we are not ruling anything out for the future.”

The French Foreign Minister also supported the Netherlands’ request for the European Commission to review Article 2 of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which obligates both sides to uphold human rights.

“This is a legitimate request, and I call on the European Commission to carry out this important work,” Barrot added.

Macron Calls Israeli Actions “Shameful”

The statement follows sharp criticism earlier this week from French President Emmanuel Macron, who labeled Israel’s actions in Gaza as “shameful and disgraceful.” Speaking to TF1, Macron said he was “one of the few leaders who visited the Egypt-Gaza border,” describing the humanitarian crisis there as “one of the most distressing sights I’ve ever witnessed.”

Macron also expressed frustration that Israeli authorities were blocking humanitarian assistance from France and other countries.

As international pressure mounts, France’s latest remarks reflect growing discontent in Europe over Israel’s handling of the conflict and the worsening humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
