Web Desk — In order to avoid fraud, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to implement implement Multiple-Finger bio metrics instead of just Thumb verification.
PTA takes the decision for a better sense of security with biometric verification which may result in the decline of illegal SIM issuance problem.
The threat and chance of fraud has also increased With the increasing number of mobile sim users. The number of cellular subscribers in Pakistan declinedd by 0.61 million to 194.14 million by end-September compared to 194.75 million by end-August 2022.
A top PTA official stated that due the multi-finger biometric verification the the number of mobile phone users has declined. According to the statement a telecom indicators data depicts decline in the number of total mobile subscriptions in Pakistan from 194.7 million to 194.14 million i.e. 0.31 percent decrease in the month of September 2022. Possible reasons for the decline in total subscriptions could be:
PTA has Initiated multiple fingers biometric verification activity for stronger SIM authentication to counter the issue of illegal SIM sales at the franchise/resellers level. This might have resulted in the decline of illegal SIM issuance by operators.
