Web Desk — In a tight-nerves match at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, New Zealand defeated England by 5 wickets to reach their maiden ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 final.
Chasing a target of 167 runs, New Zealand had the worst start possible by losing Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson for 4 and 5 runs respectively. After losing its main batsmen in the first 3 overs Daryl Mitchell and Devon Conway took charge and crashed the English bowling by adding 82 runs for the third wicket.
Mitchell and James Neesham’s took New Zealand across the finish line with an over to spare. Mitchell was 73 not out.
In the first semi-final, Kiwis won the toss and elected to bowl first. England posted a total of 166/4, thanks to a 37-ball 51 from Moeen Ali.
England’s Chris Woakes and Liam Livingstone got 2 wickets each.
The second semi-final between Australia and Pakistan will be played on Thursday in Dubai.
