Imran Khan asks workers to remain prepared for the long march

Shahbaz Sharif, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly and head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, tabled the no-confidence motion in the lower house against Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday.

Qasim Suri, the Deputy NA Speaker, asked members of the Parliament who were in favor of the motion to stand so that their numbers could be counted during the session. As per the Constitution, 20% of the MNAs present in the assembly must show support for the voting.

Following the counting of the members who supported the motion, the deputy speaker approved a discussion on the no-confidence motion, which is set for Thursday, March 31, at 4 p.m. However, the resolution will be voted on between April 1-4.

The rules of the NA state that the resolution cannot be voted on before the expiration of three days or after seven days from when it is moved in the Assembly.

If the Opposition wants the no-trust motion to be successful, then they will need the support of a simple majority — 172 members out of the 342 — in the lower house of parliament.
