Tareen Supports Hamza Shahbaz For CM Punjab Election

Jehangir Tareen to support Hamza Shahbaz for Punjab CM

Monitoring Desk — In a major political breakthrough, the Jahangir Khan Tareen group has assured that it will support Hamza Shahbaz for the slot of Punjab Chief Minister.

The breakthrough was reached in a meeting between senior PML-N leader Ishaq Dar and Jehangir Khan Tareen in London. After the successful meeting, Dar tweeted: “Had a fruitful final round of discussion with Mr Jehangir Khan Tareen. Mutually concluded that #JKT_Group will support joint Opposition’s candidate, Mr Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, for the slot of Chief Minister, Punjab. Deeply appreciate the support of #JKT and #JKT_Group.”

Sources said that the two sides also discussed the upcoming no-confidence vote on Sunday.

Two days earlier, it was also reported that Dar and Tareen spoke over the phone. The telephonic conversation was confirmed by sources close to Dar and Tareen. People, with knowledge of the meeting, said that the two leaders discussed possible ways of cooperation in Punjab and the Centre.

Voting for the Punjab Chief Minister’s slot is expected on Saturday (today).

Usman Buzdar’s ‘Unconstitutional Resignation’

On the other hand, the PML-N senior leadership has raised objections to the resignation of former chief minister Usman Buzdar calling it illegal and unconstitutional. Khawaja Saad Rafiq said the Punjab Assembly session for the election of a new chief minister would be illegal unless Buzdar tenders fresh resignation. They said instead of addressing the governor, Buzdar addressed Prime Minister in his resignation which made the resignation unconstitutional.
