Pink scooter and taxi service for women in Karachi

Web Desk: The Sindh government has launched free “Pink Scooters” for working women, aiming to enhance their mobility and ensure safer travel options.

Free Pink Scooters Initiative

Sindh’s Senior Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, revealed this initiative while addressing the media, stating that the provincial government is committed to empowering women through dedicated transport services. The pink scooters will be provided free of cost to eligible women, who must possess a valid driving license to qualify.

These scooters will be awarded via a lottery system in an open public event to ensure a fair distribution process. The scheme is expected to roll out within two weeks.

Pink Taxi Service for Safe & Comfortable Travel

Minister Memon further announced that a Pink Taxi Service will soon be introduced to provide safe and comfortable travel options for women. He emphasized that Sindh aims to be the first government in Pakistan to launch an EV taxi service, aligning with global eco-friendly transportation trends.

BRT & Green Line Projects – No Delays Allowed

During an inspection of major transportation projects, Sharjeel Memon issued strict directives to ensure timely completion of the Yellow Line BRT project. He assured the public that no delays would be tolerated and committed to completing the project five months ahead of schedule, moving the deadline from September 2025 to May 2025.

Despite utility challenges faced during the construction, the Sindh government remains focused on resolving issues related to civil aviation, the water board, and the K4 project.

Green Line Project – Fare Stability & New Facilities

The minister confirmed that fares for the Green Line BRT will remain unchanged and that additional facilities will be introduced to further enhance public transport services. He praised the Transport Department officials for their dedication in expediting the completion of vital infrastructure projects.

Call for Federal Government’s Support

Sharjeel Memon also urged the Prime Minister of Pakistan to fulfill his promise of providing 180 buses for Karachi, emphasizing that improving the city’s public transport system is a fundamental right of its residents.

This initiative reflects Sindh’s ongoing efforts to modernize transportation, prioritize women’s safety, and ensure a smoother, more efficient public transport experience for all citizens.
