Web Desk: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir has pledged to bring to justice the masterminds and facilitators behind the deadly terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment, according to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday.

The statement follows the Pakistan Army’s successful operation against 16 terrorists who attempted to infiltrate the Bannu Cantonment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. All militants were neutralized in the counteroffensive. However, the attack claimed the lives of five soldiers who heroically defended the facility, while 13 civilians were martyred and 32 others injured due to suicide blasts during the clash.

General Munir visited Bannu following the incident, where he was briefed on the security situation and ongoing operations in the region. He also visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Bannu to meet injured soldiers and commend their resilience and dedication.

The COAS praised the unwavering morale of the troops, reiterating that the Pakistan Army would continue to stand as a shield against terrorism to safeguard the country’s stability. Expressing deep condolences to the families of innocent civilians who lost their lives, he assured that justice would be served against those who orchestrated the heinous attack.

He condemned the barbaric targeting of civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, as evidence of the TTP’s true intentions as enemies of Islam. Emphasizing the critical role of national unity in the fight against terrorism, he reaffirmed the armed forces’ commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Pakistani citizens.

Addressing the troops, General Munir commended their swift and decisive response in neutralizing the attackers. He asserted that the fight against the TTP and its facilitators, who operate on behalf of hostile forces, would persist until terrorism is eradicated.

Highlighting the external threats, the COAS noted that terrorist groups, including the TTP, continue to operate from Afghan soil. He pointed out that the use of foreign weapons in recent attacks was clear evidence that Afghanistan remains a safe haven for such elements. He reiterated that no entity would be allowed to disrupt Pakistan’s peace and stability.

Upon his arrival, General Munir was received by the Peshawar Corps Commander.
