A US Air Force F-15 fighter jet has crashed in Kuwait, with a video circulating on social media showing the aircraft engulfed in flames before plummeting to the ground. The pilot successfully ejected and survived the incident, according to multiple reports .
Pilot Survives After Ejection
The footage, widely shared on platform X, captures the fighter jet trailing flames and smoke as it descends in what appears to be a flat spin before impact . At least one aircrew member was seen ejecting by parachute moments before the crash .
Separate images shared online purport to show the pilot being recovered by local civilians and transferred to authorities . While early reports suggested an F-15E Strike Eagle variant with a two-person crew, it remains unclear whether the Weapons Systems Officer also survived .
Cause Unknown Amid Regional Conflict
Neither the US military nor Kuwaiti authorities have issued official statements confirming the cause of the crash . Investigators are examining multiple possibilities including mechanical failure, friendly fire, or an Iranian strike .
The incident comes amid heightened tensions following US-Israeli strikes on Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory campaign targeting American bases across the Gulf region .
Iran Claims Naval Base ‘Destroyed’
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that the US naval base in the Abdullah Mubarak area of Kuwait was struck by four ballistic missiles and 12 drones, alleging that infrastructure was destroyed and “a large number” of US forces were killed . However, there has been no independent confirmation from Kuwaiti or US authorities regarding the scale of damage described by Iran .
Kuwait’s civil aviation authority earlier confirmed that a drone targeted the main international airport, injuring several employees . The state-run news agency also reported that three troops were injured by shrapnel from strikes that hit Ali Al-Salem air base .
Air Defenses on High Alert
Kuwait announced that its air defenses intercepted an unspecified number of “hostile aerial targets” at dawn on March 2, with no injuries reported from those interceptions . A plume of smoke was reported above the Embassy of the United States in Kuwait City .
Kuwait’s Health Ministry confirmed that one person had been killed and 32 others, all foreign nationals, had been injured in Kuwait since the start of the Iranian bombing campaign .
Regional Context
The crash follows Iran’s “Operation True Promise 4,” which targeted US military facilities across the Gulf including bases in Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE. Iran’s IRGC has vowed to continue attacks on Israel and US bases in the region .
The US Central Command previously reported that three US personnel were killed and five seriously injured in Iranian attacks, though Iran claims much higher casualties .
Investigations into the F-15 crash continue as regional tensions show no signs of abating.
