Will Smith May Face Disciplinary Action For Slapping Rock

Web Desk — The slapping incident that occured during the 94th Academy Awards ceremony is not over yet, as Will Smith may face disciplinary action in the coming days.

Smith has to face face “suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions” from the Academy, which condemned his violent actions after the Oscars. The next Academy board meeting is scheduled for April 18, and it’s here where the group may take disciplinary action against the actor.

Will Packer, who co-produced 94th Academy Awards ceremony with Shayla Cowan, explained the untoward incident of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock. Packer was talking on ‘Good Morning America’ on Friday morning.

Packer said first he thought it was a joke that Chris and Will did non their own. He said after the ceremony he approached Rock and asked: “Did he really hit you?” “Yeah, I just took a punch from Muhammad Ali,” Rock replied. He was immediately in joke mode, but you could tell that he was very much still in shock.

Will Smith was previously nominated for best actor at the Oscars for portraying the legendary boxer in the 2001 film “Ali.”

Smith slapped Rock for making sarcastic remarks during the Oscars about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head while presenting the documentary feature category.

Packer said Smith reached out to him the next morning to apologize. Both Smith and Rock addressed the incident in the days after the Oscars ceremony.

Smith apologized to Rock on March 28 in a statement published on social media, writing, “My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be.”
