Aamir Khan’s emotionally charged sports drama ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ has concluded its second week at the box office, showing signs of slowdown after a steady run. On Day 14 (Thursday), the film earned ₹2.5 crore across India, pushing the domestic net total to ₹135.4 crore.
Week Two Sees 47% Drop
The film’s Week 2 earnings stand at ₹46.5 crore, marking a 47.69% decline from its opening week—a trend common for films after the initial buzz. Day 15 (Friday) saw a 9.09% drop from Thursday, taking the film into its third weekend with momentum slowing.
Despite the dip, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ remains a commercial success. The 15-day gross collection in India is ₹161.90 crore, while its worldwide total has reached ₹214.50 crore, thanks in large part to ₹52.60 crore from overseas markets—a testament to Aamir Khan’s international fanbase.
Falling Occupancy, But Holding Ground
Audience turnout has gradually decreased. On Day 15, Hindi (2D) occupancy averaged just over 10%, starting at 7.66% in morning shows and peaking at 11.97% by night.
About the Film
Directed by R.S. Prasanna, the film is a spiritual sequel to 2007’s ‘Taare Zameen Par’. Aamir Khan plays a basketball coach tasked with mentoring a group of neurodivergent children as part of a court-ordered rehabilitation. Genelia D’Souza stars alongside, and the film notably features ten debutant neurodivergent actors, drawing praise for its inclusive casting.
A special screening was held this Wednesday in Mumbai for specially-abled students, attended by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Amruta Fadnavis—a gesture that underlined the film’s social message.
New Challenge: ‘Metro…In Dino’
As the third week begins, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ faces fresh competition from Anurag Basu’s ensemble film ‘Metro…In Dino’, featuring Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, and Sara Ali Khan. The new release could challenge Aamir Khan’s film in urban centers.
Final Word
Produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ continues to earn praise for its emotional depth, social inclusivity, and fresh casting choices. While its box office momentum is waning, the film remains a significant offering in 2025’s cinematic lineup.
