By Web Desk — Nirmala Maghani’s legal team is pursuing a case against Xulfi for copyright violation related to the Coke Studio 14 song Tu Jhoom. The notice addressed to Coke Studio 14 producer Xulfi, claims, “My client (Nirmala Maghani) sent you to voice notes of several of her compositions on June 14, 2021, including the composition Tu Mera Ranjha.”.
In the notice, it is also stated that no further communication was received from Xulfi; however, on January 14, 2022, when the Coke Studio song Tu Jhoom was released, the client was surprised to discover that the song was “copied from the notes and music composition” of Tu Mera Ranjha.
You do not have the right to telecast/broadcast or upload the said song to YouTube unless you have obtained permission from my client as it was composed and composed based on the notes of my client.”. This is an instruction to you to apply and obtain permission or license from my client and, unless granted, remove the song from every social media website, YouTube, and from Coke Studio 14’s album, as it violates the rights of my client.”
According to GIRAFFE PAKISTAN, the company co-founded by Xulfi, which oversees Coke Studio 14, “We received a notice last evening, and our legal team will respond to it through the proper channels in due course.”. “We are therefore constrained to limit our responses in deference to the legal process initiated by Ms. Maghani,” the statement said.
Coke Studio has already denied all claims of stealing by Xulfi in two different statements to national newspapers. Second, the statement was accompanied by ‘video evidence’ of a conversation between Xulfi and Abdullah Siddiqui, suggesting they had begun working on the Tu Jhoom melody in May, a month before Nirmala claimed to have sent the melody to Xulfi and shared the screenshot of the same.
