Web Desk — Sony will develop an electric car for Honda by 2025, MotorTrend has reported.
Sony is sending clear signals that it intends to build electric vehicles, even showing concept versions of the Vision-S 01 sedan and Vision-S 02 SUV recently. Sony has no experience or infrastructure in building cars, and company executives admit as much, though the company also announced last year that it has no plans to build a car.
Sony won’t build cars at all, at least not at first, so previous statements about not making cars weren’t entirely incorrect. Honda will instead build a car for Sony as part of a new joint venture that will get off the ground this year, dubbed simply “New Company” in the announcement.

According to the agreement, the two companies will engage in joint development and sales of high-value-added battery electric vehicles (EVs) and commercialize them along with mobility services.
The joint venture is designed to combine Honda’s experience in building cars, sales (and, likely, its sales networks), supply chains, etc., with Sony’s “development and application of imaging, sensing, telecommunication, and network technologies.”
This is huge news for an industry that’s had a hit-and-miss relationship with the tech sector so far.
