FBR launching virtual hearings

Web Desk — A series of online hearings will be offered by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) next month, allowing taxpayers to air grievances and file complaints directly with the tax authorities.

On Monday, Chief Commissioner of Inland Revenue Haider Ali Dharijo addressed the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati) and said that transparency was the top priority, as all documents and procedures for redressing grievances are available online.

Dharijo said that people could easily get their income tax certificates online as well as submit their tax returns online. Similarly, the FBR commissioner said the refund payment system had been fully automated.

In the first half of the current fiscal year, Rs1.6 billion was refunded to leather exporters as opposed to Rs1 billion paid in the corresponding period last year.

As a result of untimely tax payments, Kati Patron-in-Chief S.M. Muneer complained to the Federal Board of Revenue that a huge amount of refunds have been pending since 2007.
