Web Desk — Citing the uncertain economy, Amazon will cut more than 18,000 jobs from its workforce. The online retail giant is going to cut its workforce as it hired rapidly during the pandemic.
CEO Andy Jassy said, “Between the reductions we made in November and the ones we’re sharing today, we plan to eliminate just over 18,000 roles.”
Amazon had announced 10,000 layoffs in November.
Jassy explained the company didn’t take these decisions lightly and was “deeply aware” that these role eliminations were difficult for people.
“We are working to support those who are affected and are providing packages that include a separation payment, transitional health insurance benefits, and external job placement support,” he added.
Jassay said that Some of the layoffs would be in Europe and that the affected workers would be informed starting on January 18.
Among the recent workforce reductions, Amazon’s latest job-slashing plan is the largest that have impacted the US tech sector.
